Springdale is celebrating 127 multiliterate students who’ve earned the 2025 Arkansas and Global Seals of Biliteracy.

Springdale Public Schools is a leader in the state for Seal of Biliteracy students, with 27 Har-Ber High School students and some 50 students at both Don Tyson School of Innovation and Springdale High School receiving the seal this year.

Some 1,229 students statewide received the Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy recognition for 2025 for demonstrating proficiency in English and one or more other languages by high school graduation. The Global Seal of Biliteracy offers free certification in over 100 languages, enabling individuals to demonstrate their language proficiency worldwide.

To date, 7,246 students from 120 high schools have attained the Arkansas certification across forty-three languages other than English since its inception.

The Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy is awarded each spring and fall to students in grades 9-12 and is sponsored by the Arkansas Foreign Language Teachers Association and the Arkansas Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. The Arkansas Department of Education officially endorsed the Seal in June 2018.

Students were presented with a certificate and a medal at the ceremony to recognize their achievement.

The certificate presents an opportunity for further learning and growth in the workplace as students move forward with applying what they've learned as part of earning the seal.

Students had to score proficient or better in English when taking the ACT, ACT Aspire or ELPA to earn the recognition. For the secondary language, students had to pass the reading, writing, listening and speaking portions of the Spanish, Chinese or Vietnamese language test.
