Amy Harrison has been selected as the Don Tyson School of Innovation principal.
"Serving as the leader of Don Tyson School of Innovation and continuing to grow with our Phoenix Family is a position I am immensely thankful to have," Harrison said. "I am grateful to Dr. Cleveland, the district administration team and the Springdale Public School Board for allowing me the opportunity to see students on our campus and throughout the extended Springdale School District family thrive and succeed."
Harrison has been an assistant principal at DTSOI for the past six years. Before that, she was the virtual coordinator at DTSOI, taught business classes and served as response to intervention coordinator at Central Junior High School.
She will be replaces Kelly Boortz, who took a position outside of the Springdale School District.
"Ms. Boortz is an inspirational leader who created systems and pathways for student success. She also led an incredible leadership team who brings tremendous strengths to the building," Harrison said. "I am grateful to have worked with her and look forward to continuing the amazing work with the DTSOI staff.”
Dr. Jared Cleveland, Springdale School District superintendent, said Harrison is a phenomenal young administrator who will lead DTSOI to new heights.
"She has tremendous experience and is prepared to elevate her skills and leadership in her new role as principal," Cleveland said. "The current leadership team at DTSOI is tremendously strong and well-prepared to continue moving forward with the vision and mission of the school."
Harrison earned a bachelor's degree in business education in 2012 from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and a master's in educational leadership in 2017 from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
Harrison and her husband, Marty, are lifelong residents of Springdale. They have two children who attend Shaw Elementary School.
