Springdale School Board Vacancy

The Springdale Board of Education is seeking applicants interested to serve as the Zone 2 school board member following the election of Nick Emerson to the Zone 1 position after Kevin Ownbey did not seek re-election. The appointment shall last until the term for Zone 2 expires in 2028.

Mr. Ownbey spent 15 years of dedicated service to the Board. Mr. Emerson recently moved to Zone 1 and was elected to the seat vacated by Mr. Ownbey.

The school board will appoint a member to the Zone 2 position on June 9,2026, during its School Board regular meeting.

Any person interested in being considered by the School Board for the position and who is a registered voter living in Zone 2 of the school district should submit a petition and current resume to the school board expressing the individual’s intention to be considered and addressing the following:

  • Why the applicant is interested in serving as a board member,

  • How the applicant feels qualified for service,

  • The applicant’s time availability and dedication to service, and

  • What the applicant believes are the three most important issues facing the board in the next few years.

The petition must be signed by at least twenty (20) registered voters residing in Zone 2.  Here is a link to download the petition: You may also access from the Springdale Schools website www.sdale.org. Copies of the petition can also be obtained at the District Administration Office at 804 W. Johnson Ave.

The school board will interview and vote on the person they will appoint to fulfill the remaining term of the Zone 2 term at the regular June board meeting on June 9, 2026..  Each applicant will have five minutes to address the board.  The board will ask questions and deliberate during the meeting, in public session.

The petition and current resume should be sent via U.S. Mail, hand delivery, or email to Nick Emerson, Board President, Springdale School District, 804 W. Johnson Ave., Springdale AR 72764 or to vacancy@sdale.org and must be received by May 29, 2026.
