In his 29th year in the Springdale School District and sixth as assistant principal at Springdale High School, Don Eichenbergerhas been named Arkansas Assistant Principal of the Year by the Arkansas Association of Secondary School Principals. AAEA Executive Director Dr. Richard Abernathy presented the award at the conclusion of what Eichenberger thought was an academic pep rally in the Walker Performing Arts Center at SHS.

“It was a complete and total surprise,” Eichenberger said. “It is extremely humbling. I work with some of the best educators in the world and it is a privilege to work every day with the students at Springdale High School. I am proud of the work done every day at our school and in our district.”

A graduate of the University of the Ozarks with a master’s in education from Harding University, Eichenberger taught two years at Lamar and five at Harding Academy before accepting a teaching position at Springdale High School. He taught for 21 years before being named assistant principal at the Archer Learning Center. He spent two years at Archer before returning to SHS as assistant principal.

“Don Eichenberger is the kind of person we have tried to build our district around,” said Superintendent Dr. Jim Rollins. “He means the world to us and to the students at Springdale High School. He represents the attitude of helping students do more than they think they can as well as anyone I know.
