Springdale Public Schools has named Ben Thompson as the incoming assistant principal at Walker Elementary School.
“I want to express my excitement to the current Walker teachers, students and families,” Thompson said. “I can't wait to join your team and help continue the outstanding work that is already happening at Walker Elementary.”
Thompson is transitioning to Walker from Hellstern Middle School, where he’s served as an assistant principal for seven years. He’s worked as an educator for 11 years, seven of which with Springdale Schools.
Walker Elementary School Principal Lynn Ryan said Thompson’s leadership reflects a strong commitment to professional learning and student success, and the school is fortunate to have the educator join the Walker team.
“We are excited to welcome Mr. Ben Thompson as our new assistant principal,” Ryan said. “His expertise in STEM, his years of experience in education and his work with Solution Tree and team collaboration at the middle school level will serve our students, staff and community well.”
"Mr. Thompson's innovative leadership style will continue to foster academic growth at Walker Elementary School. His ability to implement effective systems will establish the structures necessary for success among teachers and students," said Superintendent Jared Cleveland.
Thompson holds a Master of Science in Environmental Science, a Bachelor of Science in Environmental, Soil and Water Science and an English for Speakers of Other Languages Certificate from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, as well as an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership - Building Level Principal (P-12) from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
He said he strives to bring helping hands to continue the great work that’s already happening at Walker Elementary. “I hope to help add to the positive culture to support the students, teachers and families of Walker,” Thompson said. “I will bring a strong work ethic to support and help the existing great work and take the next step towards continuous improvement that is embedded in the culture at Walker.”
He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Walker’s assistant principal. “I'm deeply grateful to Mrs. Ryan and her team for this incredible opportunity,” Thompson said. “I'm truly indebted to Dr. Byford, Mrs. Harrison and the dedicated teachers of Hellstern Middle School for the privilege to learn alongside them over the past seven years.”
Thompson likewise expressed his thanks to Dr. Cleveland, Associate Superintendent Melissa Fink and the School Board for the opportunity to serve as Walker’s assistant principal.
Thompson has been married to his wife, Chelsea, for 16 years. The couple has two children and enjoys all things Razorbacks, enjoying the outdoors and serving at their local church as a family.
