At the heart of the district’s Career and Technical Education opportunities is a partnership program that defies the traditional boundaries of high school learning.

The district’s Heavy Equipment Operations training program is unlike typical programs managed by colleges or trade schools and is an initiative that’s uniquely owned and operated by Springdale Public Schools.

The program has trained 172 students since its inception, with an impressive 142 graduates stepping directly into the workforce. These young professionals aren't just finding jobs; they’re securing careers with starting wages exceeding $20 per hour and are establishing a robust foundation for financial independence before they even hit their twenties.

mjordan2@sdale.orgThe true power of this career pipeline is best seen in the rapid advancement of district graduates. Graduates from just two years ago have already ascended into leadership roles within the industry. Today, current high school seniors often find themselves reporting to these very alumni during field placements, proving the distance between “student’ and “supervisor” is shorter with Springdale Schools than anywhere else. This isn't just a training course; it is a fast-track to management, built on a curriculum that stays ahead of the industry curve.

Innovation is the program’s calling card, particularly through the district’s partnership with Garret X. Students explored handheld Trimble GPS systems to interface with 3D imaging technology at a recent employer engagement event. This high-tech integration guides the Cat D3 Dozer during complex site preparation at the Hylton training location.

This level of advanced GPS training that’s integrated directly into district maintenance and operations classes is rare and isn’t currently offered anywhere else in the southern half of the United States. By placing 21st-century technology in the hands of 18-year-olds, Springdale Schools and its partners are ensuring students aren't just operators; they are technical specialists.

As the Springdale CTE program looks to the future, the district is inviting prospective students from across the district and NWA businesses to join a program where high demand meets high wages. By expanding enrollment, Springdale Schools aims to grow this vital workforce development engine, providing more students with the tools to build the infrastructure of tomorrow while securing their own prosperous futures today.
