Springdale Har-Ber High School had a school record 43 All-State choir selections, more than any school in the state. In fact, Har-Ber choir director Clint Pianalto thinks 43 may be the most ever by any school in Arkansas but he hasn't been able to verify that yet. Competition was done virtually so in order to celebrate the amazing accomplishment by their choir students, Pianalto and Michael Brown hosted lunch, serving Cane's chicken, and provided t-shirts that said, "I made all-state during a pandemic." Har-Ber's choir will present "Let My Love Be Heard" April 29 at 7 pm in the Marsha Jones Performing Arts Center. Family members of seniors will be given first priority to reserve seats. Remaining seats will be made available to junior and sophomore parents. #THEChoice

Sonora Middle School held their Renaissance Dinner party Friday, April 9 in Mrs. Heidi Cohen's class. It is a culminating event for my third quarter Quest for Salt. This project has the students travel around Europe, the far east, and Africa. All the while, relaying what they learned through their travels to Queen Cohen. In the Mind Your "Manors" activity they researched a person from the Renaissance, wrote a monologue, created a poster and prop to share at the dinner. The dinner is then held to honor the Quest for Salt Traveler and wrap up the Middle Ages unit. Thank you so much for sharing with us!

TIFFANY DYKES NAMED HAR-BER CHEERLEADER COACH Former University of Arkansas cheerleader Tiffany Dykes has been named cheerleader coach at Springdale Har-Ber High School. She replaces Jamie Bunting, who is moving to Benton. “I’m excited, thrilled and honored to be trusted with this responsibility at Har-Ber High School,” Dykes said. Dykes was a four-year cheerleader at the UA and captained the squad during her last two years. She has operated a cheer youth academy in Springdale, served as cheer coach at Shiloh Christian and helped guide competitive choreography at Springdale High School, Central Junior High and Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Mo. “We’re excited to have Tiffany and the experience she brings to the position,” said district athletic director Wayne Stehlik. “She is a perfect fit to continue the success developed by Jamie Bunting with Har-Ber’s cheer program. We are very grateful to Jamie for the great foundation she established and for creating wonderful memories for Har-Ber’s cheerleaders and their families.”

Lakeside assistant principal Chelsea Jennings has been named National Assistant Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. She is only the second assistant principal from Arkansas ever to win the honor. The first was current Lakeside principal Dr. Michael Shepherd, who was assistant principal at Springdale Har-Ber High School at the time. “Since hearing the news I have had a smile from ear-to-ear,” said Jennings, in her fifth year as Lakeside assistant principal. “I’ve also shed a few happy and emotional tears. I am honored to be recognized among so many deserving and talented administrators and I am excited to represent the work we do in Springdale to support every child. “I know this award brings with it an important responsibility and opportunity to use my voice to shape the future of education, a task I accept with pride and gratitude.” “We are overjoyed with the accomplishment of Chelsea Jennings,” said Springdale Superintendent Dr. Jared Cleveland. “She has worked her way from teacher to curriculum specialist to assistant principal with a focus on impactful curriculum that nurtures the whole child. She has been and will continue to be a leader on all levels. She is an outstanding educator with a brilliant future.” Ron Nozoe, NASSP chief executive officer, said, “We are proud to recognize Chelsea Jennings as the 2021 NASSP Assistant Principal of the Year for her tremendous leadership in developing a positive school culture to ensure the well-being and safety of her students, their families and their community. We salute her drive and efforts to prioritize the social-emotional well-being of her students through innovative solutions and continued advocacy.” Shepherd added, “This is such a great honor for someone who works so hard to provide opportunities for kids. We’ve known for a long time how special Chelsea is. It’s good for the state and nation to be able to see the wonderful things she does for our school.”
