The School Board Congratulated two students who received a prestigious environmental award. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in partnership with the White House Council on Environmental Quality, selected a project by former John Tyson Elementary School students as the regional winner of the Presidential Environmental Youth Award. The award recipients are Izzy George, who is now a sixth-grader at Helen Tyson Middle School, and Henry Moody, who is currently a Don Tyson School of Innovation sixth-grader. The President’s Environmental Youth Award recognizes outstanding environmental stewardship projects developed by K-12 youth, while the PEYA program promotes awareness of the nation's natural resources and encourages positive community involvement. These schools have been recognized by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas as schools where students demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire! The board also Congratulated Schools that have beaten the odds. John Tyson Elementary, Bayyari Elementary, Monitor Elementary, Linda Childers Knapp Elementary, and Helen Tyson Middle. These schools have been recognized by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas as schools that are Beating the Odds because students demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire even though the schools serve a high percentage of students who participate in Free and Reduced Lunch! The School Board met with Michal Tapee, Milken Award recipient and teacher at Hellstern Middle School. The Milken Award is awarded to teachers in early-to-mid careers for their already impressive achievements and, more significantly, for the promise of what they will accomplish in the future. Springdale High School will be taking the 2023 Homecoming Parade downtown! The parade will start at 6 PM October 12, and will make a loop from Johnson to Emma and back to Johnson (see map below for loop details). We welcome families, the community, and our feeder schools to come cheer on our Bulldogs as they prepare for homecoming against Rogers. There will be floats representing many Bulldog teams, student groups, the marching band, homecoming court, feeder schools, and others. Our parade will be Marshalled by 2 SHS Alumni, Jarrell Williams and Dennis Debusk. Prior to the parade, there will be a Hoco Hangout for the high school students from 4:30 until 6:00. Homecoming Game will be on October 13, 7:00 @ Jarrell Williams Stadium. Go RedDogs!
